About Ashington Astro
Welcome to Ashington Astro!
This is an amateur astrophotography site used to simply store and display the images I have been able to produce so far from my home in Ashington, West Sussex. This new hobby started in February 2023 with my first attempt at an image of the Andromeda Galaxy. Since then, I have been continuously learning and trying to capture more difficult targets.
The number of clear nights with little or no moonlight is fairly limited in this part of the world, but when they do occur, the skies can be reasonably dark. Away from buildings and streetlights
the level of light pollution here is “Class 4” on the 9 point Bortle Scale
which runs from Excellent Dark Skies (1) to Inner City (9). Class 4 represents the Rural/Suburban Transition.
Some nearby locations on the South Downs get a little darker still, but they are less convenient for astrophotography due to the need for power (for camera, auto-tracking telescope mount, etc.) and
total integrated exposure times of sometimes several hours.
If you stumbled across this site, then I hope you enjoy my images and find them interesting. Should you wish to get in touch for any reason, please do so via the main website – Ashington Met
Thanks for looking!
